An International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification) is a standardized method used by certified arborists to evaluate the likelihood of a tree or its parts failing and the potential consequences. It combines field inspection, tree biology, and site conditions to assign a level of risk. This is important because it helps property owners and managers make informed decisions about pruning, mitigation, or removal, improving public safety while preserving healthy trees whenever possible.

Level I Limited Visual Inspection

Level II Basic Inspection

More thorough 360 degree ground-based inspection

Purpose: identify structural defects and signs of weakness in the trunk, roots, and crown. May require basic tools such as probe, mallet

Level III Advanced Inspection

In-depth analysis beyond Level II and may require specialized tools/techniques

Purpose: to gather more detailed information about a trees condition and risk factors. May require advanced techniques such as climbing and use of resistograph
